Margaritas Two Ways - sweet or with a bite!
Trying to design a meaningful and memorable blog name, I wanted to capture my love of food, drinks, and the beach. I imagined relaxing at a sunny, breezy beach bar... and I kept picturing margaritas. Two key margarita ingredients are sea salt and tequila... yes, that sounds like a winner to me!
Welcome to Sea Salt and Tequila - beach shack recipes that are simple, fresh, and flavorful and bring to mind thoughts of relaxing on a sunny island.
Fresh lime juice is the key to an amazing margarita - and this recipe has plenty of it! Great company makes these even better :)
I have two versions of Margarita below:
Version #1 - Sweet Margarita that goes down easy - less lime juice and sweetened with simple syrup - these margaritas are pleasant to sip and disappear quickly.
Version #2 - Margarita with a Real Bite! - lots of lime juice gives these an intense and addictive kick - these are only slightly sweetened with agave syrup.
To make the Salted Rim
- 1 tablespoon kosher sea salt
- 1 tablespoon lime juice
Salted Rim - using two saucers - place the lime juice in one and the sea salt in the other. Dip the rim of the margarita glass in the lime juice (to wet the edges), then dip the wet rim in the sea salt.
To make the Margaritas Version #1 - Sweet Margarita that goes down easy less lime and simple syrup make this a more mild margarita (makes one drink)
- 1 1/2 ounces white tequila
- 1/2 ounce orange liquor, I use Gran Gala
- 1 ounce fresh lime juice
- 1 ounce simple syrup* (or less if you prefer)
- ice - for shaking and serving
- lime slices - optional garnish
*Simple syrup is sold at the store but it is so easy to make your own. It is created using equal parts water and sugar (warmed until the sugar dissolves ) - I do a quick 1/4 cup water and 1/4 cup white cane sugar warmed in a measuring glass in the microwave for about 30 seconds and stir until the sugar dissolves into the water.
To make the Margaritas Version #2 - Margaritas with a real bite! lots of lime, less sweet, and a real strong real bite!! (makes one drink)
- 1 1/2 ounces white tequila
- 1/2 ounce orange liquor, I use Gran Gala
- 1 1/2 ounces fresh lime juice
- 2 teaspoons agave (more if desired) - 2 teaspoons and the drink still has a nice lime kick - adding the additional teaspoon (total of 3 teaspoons) makes this slightly sweeter and takes away some of the bite.
- ice - for shaking and serving
- lime slices - optional garnish
Margarita - in a shaker, combine tequila, orange liquor, lime juice, simple syrup or agave (depending on the recipe), and a few ice cubes. Shake and strain into an ice filled, salt rimmed glass. Garnish with lime slices. Repeat :)
