Twice Sugared Caipirinhas

Twice Sugared Caipirinhas

My dad perfected our version of the Caipirinha - we make these icy rum drinks often

Thanks for letting me share your recipe dad!

This is our take on this Brazilian drink.... the Caipirinha.  The star is Cachaca 51 a relatively inexpensive Brazilian rum made with sugarcane.  Our twist is using both light brown sugar and simple syrup to sweeten these cocktails and topping them off with fizzy club soda.

This delicious Brazilian rum drink doesn't disappoint - we make these often. Once the boozy drink is gone, I always refill my glass with water to savor any remaining sugar and lime juice hiding under the ice at the bottom of the glass :)

To Make Twice Sugared Caipirinhas (makes one drink)

  • 1 lime (cut into 8 pieces - best if the lime is cut in half at the equator then quarter each half)
  • 2 teaspoons light brown sugar
  • 2 ounces cachaca rum (this is a must!) we use Cachaca 51
  • 3/4 ounces simple syrup*
  • 2 ounces club soda (you can always add more if you prefer)
  • crushed ice for serving

Twice Sugared Caipirinhas - in a lowball glass add all 8 lime pieces and light brown sugar.  Muddle the lime - keeping the lime and juice in the glass - add rum, simple syrup, and club soda. Stir. Top with crushed ice - enjoy!!

*Simple Syrup is so easy to make I can't imagine buying it.  It is just equal parts cane sugar and water. Dissolve 1/2 cup sugar in 1/2 cup warm water- let cool and then it's ready to shake into some great cocktails. Store in the fridge for easy quick cocktail sweetner.

Cheers to another great year!

Happy Birthday Jessie
